Injection Molding Defects and Solutions -- S-shaped Flow Marks 2025-10-17

S-shaped Flow Marks (Snake Marks / Jetting):
This defect occurs when the molten resin injected from the gate into the mold cavity solidifies on the surface of the molded part in a serpentine, snake-like pattern.

12.1 Causes 12.2 Solutions
12.1.1 Improper gate location, e.g., a direct gate allows molten resin to enter the cavity in a snake-like pattern and solidify quickly without resistance. 12.2.1 Change the gate location and design so that the melt does not enter the cavity directly but flows in after being resisted.
12.1.2 Runner system too long, causing material to cool too quickly. 12.2.2 Shorten the runner system.
12.1.3 Low mold or melt temperature. 12.2.3 Properly increase mold and melt temperatures.
12.1.4 Improper cold slug well position. 12.2.4 Adjust the position and shape of the cold slug well.
12.1.5 Low injection pressure or low injection speed. 12.2.5 Increase injection pressure and speed.
12.1.6 Low hot runner temperature. 12.2.6 Increase hot runner temperature.
